Came across the daily devotional update from my LiveBible app today and saw this verse. It was revealed to me in the American Standard Version (ASV), but i went to look up the New King James Version (NKJV) which i most often refer to.
1 John 2:1; My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. (NKJV)
Later i further looked up this verse in the Amplified Bible (AMP) which gave more meaning and life into the verse. It very much became self-explanatory by then.
1 John 2:1; My little children, I write you these things so that you may not violate God's law and sin. But if anyone should sin, we have an Advocate (One Who will intercede for us) with the Father - (it is) Jesus Christ (the all) righteous (upright, just, Who conforms to the Father's will in every purpose, thought, and action ), (AMP)
It is so reassuring to see this verse and know that my Heavenly Father will always accept me no matter what i do, even if my father in this world does not. At one point i really could not imagine, how could so many set themselves against the works of Jesus and the love of my Father when He is so all-loving? John wrote this letter telling the people to follow God's commandment, as shown in the very first line. It could be easily mislead and mistaken if its taken out of context. However, this verse, plus the following of the 1 John 2 tells us of this new commandment replacing the old, fulfilled by the death and sacrifice of Lord Jesus who will thus take precedence over two stone slabs. No words could be clearer than that of the Father's. :)
John is also not saying that to be accepted by God as sons and daughters we MUST not sin. It is blessed that He acknowledges the frailty of man in keeping the line and thus if anyone should sin, Lord Jesus as the One who fulfilled the commandments will intercede successfully and continuously on our behalf. And He is definitely qualify to do so as the One who fully conformed to God's will in every perspective. Nothing could really be more wholesome than the Lamb of God. After meditating of this verse, it really set me thinking more and more about His undying, faithful love for us.
Do i love Him as much as He loves me? Definitely not, but i am sure that that does not reduce any of His love for me. I believe this verse emerged for a purpose, for i have to admit that i was never one who diligently does quiet time or meditate spiritually for God's word or revelation. To me, God is like a merciful Dad, a bin that stores all my unhappiness when i go to Him and complain; where He will not take offence with me when i fail to finish my conversation with Him if i fall asleep; and also to my beloved jingting who has the same problems as i do. He is always there for us. That is our Father. :D
Random as it may sound, i believe this verse was meant to be something; probably a start to get me thinking about the daily verses that comes and passes by each day. It might be something for someone out there who desperately needs a revelation and chanced by God's grace, upon my blog. No matter what, I thank Lord Jesus for that, and also for the wonderful night You have given me today with my lady beloved. :)
